Around 100 flights to and from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were cancelled on Sunday, a source said, as heightened security measures were implemented and multiple airports in northern and western India were temporarily shut amid tensions between India and Pakistan.
The cancellations followed a mutual understanding reached between India and Pakistan on Saturday to cease all firings and military actions across land, air, and sea with immediate effect.
According to the source as quoted by news agency PTI, flight cancellations at Delhi airport between 5:00 am and 4:30 pm included 52 domestic departures, 44 domestic arrivals, and one international departure.
In a post on X, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport, said:
“Delhi Airport is operating normally. However, due to changes in airspace dynamics and increased security measures, some flight schedules and security checkpoint processing times may be affected.”
Indira Gandhi International Airport is the country’s busiest aviation hub.
