And for one Florida woman, that meant literally racing to her own wedding, at over 100 miles per hour.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department recently released bodycam footage capturing the moment a bride on her way to her big day was pulled over for speeding. The bride and her sharply dressed wedding guest were caught in a gray Tesla traveling at 105 mph on the Crosstown Parkway Friday afternoon — far over the legal speed limit.
The duo was trying to make it to a 2:30 p.m. wedding ceremony in nearby Stuart but were instead stopped at 2:42 p.m., according to footage shared by the police.
“Whose wedding is it?” the officer is heard asking as he approaches the vehicle.
“It’s mine,” the bride responds from the passenger seat, wearing a long white gown and a nervous smile.
The driver, dressed in a white collared shirt and black vest, remained behind the wheel as the bride explained the situation.
“We’re trying to get there,” she tells the officer with a giggle.
Despite the urgency, the officer issued the driver a mandatory court date for speeding but let them continue on their way so the bride wouldn’t miss her walk down the aisle.
In a cheeky Facebook post, police wrote: “This stop gives a whole new meaning to racing to the altar.”
“Not exactly the best way to start your wedding,” they added.
The video has gone viral on the internet, with about 3 million views and thousands of comments. One user commended the police officer's decision to let the car go at that moment: “I respect his compassion with the situation. He was in position to disrupt one of the most important days of her life, but he chose to be a good person. Shout out to that officer. Good job, buddy!” However, a second user held quite a different view. They said, “I don't agree with letting him go- 105 mph on Crosstown????!!! Seriously???!!
