Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor have always been a magical on-screen pair. Whether it was the charm of ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno,’ the emotional ride of ‘Tamasha,’ or the feel-good love story in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,’ their chemistry has lit up the big screen time and again. Together, they’ve made fans laugh, cry, and fall in love, making them one of Bollywood’s most beloved on-screen pairs.
But apart from their work in films, the connection they share in real life has always intrigued fans too. And now, an old video is once again sparking joy among their admirers.
DP’s heartfelt wish
A nostalgic video has recently resurfaced. The clip is believed to be from an interview with ABP News during the time they were promoting ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,’ as even Kalki Koechlin is seen in the frame.
In the video, Deepika is asked which film of Ranbir’s she would have liked to be part of if she could go back in time. She looks a bit puzzled and asks, “Remake?” Before she can answer, Ranbir cheekily jumps in and asks, “When I direct a film, will you act?”
Without missing a beat, Deepika says, “Jab Ranbir apni pehli film direct karengey, I hope that I am his first heroine.” The ‘Rockstar’ actor smiles and asks her, “But you think I will be a good director?” to which the ‘Piku’ actress warmly replies, “Of course.” Kapoor continues, “So you want to ask for a script or a character?”
And Deepika responds with a laugh, “Like I said yes to Ayaan. Like that.”

Ranbir’s visions are clear: Deepika
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the ‘Tamasha’ actress shared this wish. In a 2013 interview with Hindustan Times, she said something very similar. “Maybe at some point he may expand his art and get into direction. His visions are clear, and I’m one hundred percent sure that he’ll make for a great director. But I don’t think he has any immediate plans. I’d love to be Ranbir’s first heroine when he directs a movie.”
Clearly, this was more than a casual comment — it was something she truly meant.
So far, the ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ actor hasn’t taken the plunge into directing. But with a deep understanding of cinema and years of acting experience, he could make a great filmmaker someday. And if that day comes, fans already know who they’d love to see as his leading lady.
Ranbir and Deepika’s upcoming project
Deepika was last seen in the futuristic epic ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ and Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again.’ She is also reportedly set to have an extended cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King,’ where she will be playing Suhana Khan’s mother.
Ranbir, meanwhile, has a packed schedule with some of the biggest upcoming projects in Bollywood. He’s gearing up for Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana,’ where he stars alongside Sai Pallavi, and will also be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love and War’ with Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
