In an online world driven by fitness routines, cosmetic tweaks, and endless attempts at physical perfection, a 19-year-old is going viral for doing the opposite. Known online as The Crooked Man , the teenager has built a following by intentionally training only one side of his body—specifically, his left trapezius muscle. His goal? To make himself look as asymmetrical as possible. He calls it “LooksMinimizing,” a parody of the internet trend “LooksMaxxing,” which promotes extreme physical self-optimization.
“People were like, ‘Do this, do that. You’ll look more attractive. You’ll get more women,’” he said in response to curious viewers. “I have the opposite problem. I get so many DMs that I don’t even have time to get through them all. I need the opposite solution.”
Since launching his social media accounts in October 2023, he has documented the exaggerated development of his left trap through isolated workouts, baffling audiences with his commitment to bodily imbalance. His videos have drawn millions of views, mostly from people trying to figure out whether he’s serious or just playing an elaborate joke.
“What’s the opposite of looksmaxxing ? Looksminimizing ,” he explained in one of his now-famous TikToks. “What was the best way to looksminimize? Become more asymmetrical. Work out one trap. It solved my problem. And man, it has worked like a charm.”
The term “LooksMinimizer” is his own creation, a satirical response to the LooksMaxxing subculture often associated with online “incel” communities. While LooksMaxxing focuses on achieving peak attractiveness—sometimes through obsessive exercise or surgery—LooksMinimizing, in his case, embraces the absurdity of chasing perfection by flipping it on its head.
In a Q&A video, he joked about how the transformation is already affecting his daily life.
“People no longer question when I park in the handicap parking spot, little kids point at me in the grocery store,” he said. “Shirts fit a little awkwardly. My backpack also feels a little awkward. Stiff slightly. But in terms of pain? Zero.”
Despite pleas from fans to balance out his body—or as some put it, to start “LooksNormalizing”—he’s doubling down. In a new video posted earlier this week, he announced he’s 30 days into working out only one leg, doing Bulgarian split squats with 30-pound dumbbells on just one side.
As his left leg begins to grow out of proportion with the rest of his body, reactions from viewers have ranged from impressed to concerned. One of his most-watched videos has received more than 24 million views. Users are mostly asking him to stop. One user said, “I respect the hustle dude but jfc... The views and everything else is not worth the health risk of doing this.”
Another said, “What an absolutely diabolical use of free will.” One frustrated user wrote, “Now you stop training that one and train the other one until you even out."
Whether The Crooked Man is trolling the internet or delivering a pointed critique of beauty standards, one thing is certain: his body is now the canvas for a viral experiment in internet absurdity. But as the joke continues to evolve, he may end up paying a physical price that goes far beyond awkward shirt fits and uneven squats.
