The McLaren pair of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris cemented their place in the top two as they went on to finish first and second in all three free practice sessions at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy. On Saturday, Norris finally managed to surpass teammate Piastri to top the third free practice session, FP3. On Friday, Piastri had maintained the lead in both FP1 and FP2, while Norris followed closely in the second position.
Emilia Romagna Grand Prix FP3 resultsLando Norris finally got a boost ahead of the Qualifying race on Saturday. He won FP3, leaving Oscar Piastri in second place in Saturday’s final practice session. This in itself is enough to give him hope of being capable of beating his own McLaren teammate Piastri in a race. Piastri seems invincible this year as he has already won four out of six Grands Prix so far. He also topped FP1 and FP2 in Imola on Friday.
The third spot, however, featured different names in each practice session. On Saturday, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came third in FP3. Carlos Sainz of Ferrari and Pierre Gasly of Alpine had taken third place in FP1 and FP2 on Friday, respectively.
In FP3, Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli took the fourth spot as he raced in front of his home crowd for the first time. This was a significant improvement from his performance on Friday. He was followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in fifth position and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari in sixth.
Isack Hadjar of Racing Bulls put up an impressive performance by finishing seventh, one position ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell, who ended up eighth. Alex Albon of Williams finished ninth, while Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top ten. Hamilton is racing at Ferrari’s home ground for the first time since joining the team. The crowd welcomed him to Italy with enthusiastic cheers and creative placards. Franco Colapinto, who replaced Jack Doohan at Alpine, ended in 18th position in FP3.
