Vasan Bala , filmmaker and director of Jigra has deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account after facing relentless trolling online. Defending the box office performance of his latest release, Vasan said that he doesn't treat the box office as a parameter of success. His Twitter account was active until Saturday; however it was deleted on Sunday. All his tweets now read “'This post is from an account that no longer exists.' His account's landing page also comes up blank now.”
However, his account on Instagram is still active.
During his recent Hollywood Reporter interview, Vasan said that commercial returns were not his primary focus. However, his comments left some viewers interpreting his stance as dismissive of audience feedback.
Jigra was released on October 11, 2024. The movie, despite being released amidst significant buzz, has underperformed at the box office, collecting only Rs 27.30 crore in ten days. The film stars Alia Bhatt as an elder sister fighting to save her brother from a foreign prison.
Controversies plague Jigra
Earlier this month, actress Divya Khosla Kumar accused Alia Bhatt of manipulating the film’s box office figures. Sharing an Instagram story, Khosla alleged that Bhatt had purchased tickets to inflate the numbers. In her story, she also shared an image of an empty theatre, mocking the film’s reported earnings.
Manipuri actor Bujou Thaangjam also alleged that he was treated unprofessionally by Jigra‘s casting team. He claimed that he was promised a role in the movie that never materialized.
