J&K: Policeman injured in grenade explosion at Baramulla court evidence room

NEW DELHI: A policeman was injured on Thursday after a grenade, collected as evidence, accidentally exploded in the evidence room of a court in Baramulla district, officials confirmed.

The explosion took place around 1:05pm inside the 'malkhana' (evidence room) of the Baramulla court complex. The injured policeman was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.

"A grenade, stored as evidence in a case, accidentally exploded inside the malkhana, injuring one police personnel," a police official said.

The district police assured the public that the situation is under control and urged people not to spread or believe rumors.

In other developments, the newly elected chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir , Omar Abdullah , met Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday in New Delhi.

During the 30-minute meeting, Abdullah discussed key issues related to the union territory, including the early restoration of statehood and security matters. This marked Abdullah's first visit to the national capital since taking office last week.
