NEW DELHI: India has sent 30 tons of humanitarian aid to Palestine amid the ongoing Middle East conflict. This aid includes medicines, surgical supplies, dental products, general medical items, and high-energy biscuits.

The assistance will be distributed through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East ( UNRWA ).

Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared in a post on social media platform X, "India sends humanitarian assistance for the people of Palestine through UNRWA."

The World Food Programme (WFP) recently warned about dwindling food supplies in northern Gaza, stating that no food aid has entered the area since October 1. A post by WFP on October 12 highlighted the severe impact of escalating violence on food security in the region.

The United Nations has also called for an end to the conflict in Gaza, urging the release of hostages and the delivery of humanitarian aid. Tor Wennesland, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, said in a statement, "The nightmare in Gaza is intensifying. Horrifying scenes are unfolding in the northern strip amidst conflict, relentless Israeli strikes and an ever-worsening humanitarian crisis."

Last month, UNRWA reported that people in Gaza are living in 'inhumane' conditions, with waste piling up and sewage leaking into the streets, exposing families to health risks. The agency called for an immediate ceasefire.

Since the October 7 attack, a total of 1,206 Israelis have died. Meanwhile, Israel’s retaliatory actions have resulted in over 42,603 deaths in Gaza.
