NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Loktantrik Party leader and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal made an unusual remark in Parliament on Tuesday during a discussion on Operation Sindoor , likening Pakistan to India’s “wife” following the military action.
“It is very unfortunate that the incident took place on 22nd April and Operation Sindoor started on the night of May 7. It went on for two days, you said Pakistan fell on its knees and the country’s media said we reached Karachi and occupied it,” Beniwal said.
Drawing a parallel to Hindu tradition, he continued: “According to Hindu beliefs, a woman considers her husband her sindoor. India put sindoor on Pakistan, so Pakistan has become its wife. Only vidaai is left. Leke aajao aap (Bring her along).”
His comments, drew laughter from Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad sitting next to Beniwal.
The comments came amid a heated debate on India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack , in which several civilians were killed. The government launched a twin military operation — Sindoor and Mahadev — aimed at targeting the attackers and their handlers.
Union home minister Amit Shah earlier told the Lok Sabha that the terrorists behind the Pahalgam massacre were neutralised in Operation Mahadev, while their handlers were hit in Operation Sindoor. “We have proof two had Pakistani voter IDs, and even the chocolates they carried were made in Pakistan,” Shah said. He criticised opposition leaders for questioning the origin of the terrorists, directly naming former Home Minister P Chidambaram for allegedly giving a “clean chit” to Pakistan.
“130 crore people are watching their conspiracy to save Pakistan,” Shah said. He also said that during previous Congress regimes, terrorists had entered the Lok Sabha, and accused the party of being soft on national security issues.
Responding to criticisms that the operations were not part of a declared war, Shah claimed that PoK still existed only because of historical errors by the Nehru-Gandhi leadership. “Yesterday, they were raising questions about why there was no war… Today, PoK exists only because of Jawaharlal Nehru,” he said.
Operation Mahadev was conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, killing Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives involved in the April attack.
