NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu's three-day visit to Odisha from October 23 was postponed on Monday in view of cyclone 'Dana' which is likely to hit the state coast by Thursday. The state government announced that it is implementing measures to mitigate the potential impact of an impending cyclone.
"A cyclonic circulation formed over north Andaman Sea on Sunday is likely to intensify into a lowpressure area in the next 12 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by Oct 22 and into a cyclonic storm by Oct 23 over east-central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by Oct 24 morning,” the IMD said on Sunday.
On her visit, President is set to lay the foundation stones for several railway and development projects in her home district of Mayurbhanj . Among the new railway lines are Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia, and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh, which were sanctioned by the Ministry of Railways in August.
The Badampahar-Kendujhargarh line will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,875.72 crore, the Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani line for Rs 2,269.49 crore, and the Buramara-Chakulia line for Rs 1,459.13 crore. Additionally, she will virtually launch three projects: a Tribal Research Centre, Dandbose Airport, and a sub-divisional hospital, according to an official statement.
