A 2.4 magnitude earthquake was reported in Long Beach late Sunday night at 11.34 pm Pacific time, according to the US Geological Survey ( USGS ).
The quake, which occurred at a depth of 7.6 miles, was centered less than a mile from Los Angeles , two miles from Carson, four miles from Signal Hill, and four miles from Rancho Palos Verdes.
There have been no earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater in the area over the past 10 days.
According to USGS data, the greater Los Angeles area experiences an average of 59 earthquakes each year in the 2.0 to 3.0 range .
