NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday lashed out at India-born Democrat Shri Thanedar , the Michigan congressman who filed impeachment articles against him, calling him a " lunatic " during a public appearance in Michigan.
Speaking during a visit to Selfridge and later at a rally at Macomb County Community College, Trump mocked Thanedar, saying, "They did it again. Some guy that I never heard of, (hey) John James, is he a congressman?", as he turned to Michigan GOP Rep. John James.
"This guy, he said, he said, ladies and gentlemen, I am going to start the impeachment of Donald Trump. What the hell did I do?"
Thanedar had filed seven articles of impeachment against President Trump , citing issues like unlawful deportations, defying court orders, and harmful tariffs.
"Here we go again. They want to impeach me, this lunatic This lunatic is up, actually, I had the television way down. And I said to our great first lady, listen, did I just hear I was being impeached again?" Trump said.
"We're getting good at this though," he added.
Trump further criticised the Democratic Party leadership, referencing Thanedar and Texas Rep. Al Green, who was removed from Trump's Congressional address in March.
"They've gone totally crazy, these people. And you know what? They've totally lost their confidence. They can't even tell a lunatic like this dumb guy that said it," he said.
The move comes just a day before Trump is set to hold a rally in Macomb County marking his first 100 days in office.
Thanedar caused significant controversy by presenting impeachment articles against Trump, stating the President posed a direct threat to American democracy.
He released a video condemning Trump for constitutional violations and ignoring a Supreme Court directive regarding deported immigrant Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia.
"Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unfit to serve as President and represents a clear and present danger to our nation’s constitution and our democracy," the Congressman Thanedar said in a video posted on X.
"His unlawful actions have subverted the justice system, violated the separation of powers, and placed personal power and self-interest above public service. We cannot wait for more damage to be done. Congress must act."
"This is not about partisanship. It’s about protecting our democracy and ensuring that no one, not even a President, is above the law," Thanedar added.

When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not “fighting for America.”
