Elon Musk's dinner with Rupert Murdoch: 'He's doing for Trump what he did for Tesla'

Send Push

Elon Musk Monday traveled from Pittsburgh to New York for a sinner with Rupert Murdoch and other business leaders to discuss the state of the race, a New York Times report said citing a person with knowledge of the meal. This was one of the many things that Elon Musk has been doing for Donald Trump -- including planning for his speeches for where he will be campaigning, donating substantial amounts of money etc.

At the same time, he is doing his day-to-day work for Tesla.

"In some ways, what Mr Musk has done for Tesla, the electric car company, is not terribly different from what he is doing now for Mr Trump. Mr Musk, not known for his humility, is throwing himself into a work project with the same exacting demands, penchant for cost-cutting and belief in himself that have defined his three decades as a Silicon Valley founder," the NYT noted.

Elon Musk's team

The NYT report said Elon had assembled a team like the one he did when he was buying Twitter. Elon's cousin James Musk helped the super PAC; Musk also recruited veterans of the world of field organizing like Chriss Carr, an expert on the state of Nevada.

According to the Trump campaign, Elon Musk has built a get-out-the-vote team that Trump is largely depending upon in the final weeks, the NYT report said.

Elon Musk's long game

The NYT report said Elon and his family office chief, Jared Birchall, filed paperwork in Texas this month to incorporate two new entities with names that appear to carry political objectives: Group America L.L.C. and United States of America Inc.

"Their purpose is unclear, but the timing is revealing for a billionaire who may seek voter data for future political projects. One person close to the super PAC said the group had recently begun testing some techniques for targeting voters that could yield data for the future," the report said.
