Maryland election results 2024: Kamala Harris wins 10 electoral votes

Kamala Harris secured Maryland's 10 electoral votes in a decisive victory. The state, which borders the nation's capital, has a substantial population of federal employees and maintains strong Democratic leanings.

Maryland's demographic composition includes approximately 30 per cent Black residents, the highest proportion amongst states outside the Deep South. The state's registered Democrats surpass Republicans by a ratio of two to one.

Donald Trump's popularity remains notably low in Maryland, where he garnered only 32 per cent of votes in 2020.

The state has consistently voted Democratic in presidential elections since George H.W. Bush's victory in 1988.

In the congressional race, Republican Andy Harris retained his position in Maryland's 1st Congressional District.

Democrat Angela Alsobrooks achieved a historic milestone by becoming Maryland's first Black senator, defeating former Republican Governor Larry Hogan.

Her campaign emphasised abortion rights, coinciding with Maryland voters' approval of a constitutional amendment protecting abortion access.
