A woman who was sexually harassed at a Harlem subway station turned the tables on her abuser by filming him and sharing the footage online, sparking outrage and calls for action across social media.
According to the New York Post, Juliet Scott, a research consultant and influencer, recorded the man’s vulgar gestures at the 125th Street 3 train station in late February and posted the video to TikTok. The footage, which shows the man thrusting his hips and making explicit motions with his mouth and hands, quickly went viral.
“You’re disgusting… you’re nasty!” Scott is heard saying in the video, as the man taunted her from across the platform, even mimicking kissing gestures and thrusting again while saying, “Like this, too… look, look.” Scott later wrote on the video, “He followed me around for a minute before this, and kept showing me his parts.” The harassment happened in full view of children and police officers at the station, she added.
As reported by the New York Post, the video was later reshared by the account Only in New York and gained nearly 200,000 views across TikTok and Instagram. Public reaction was swift and damning.
Over 900 people took part in an Instagram poll asking if they recognised the man, with 14%, about 128 users, claiming they had seen him before.
Other women flooded Scott’s post with disturbing testimonies, saying they had experienced similar run-ins with the same man. “This is the norm,” one user commented. “THIS is what we deal with on the DAILY,” another wrote. A different woman posted, “I hate this city sometimes. Tired of these types of men.”
Despite the flood of support, some online users criticised Scott’s decision to confront the man, suggesting she should have ignored and walked away. However, Scott stood by her actions and urged the public to report him if spotted. “Another day in Harlem,” she told the Post, visibly frustrated.
Scott, who is originally from Sierra Leone, said she was compelled to speak up not just for herself but for others who face such harassment daily in New York’s transit system.
