Vitla: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested eight people in connection with the theft of a car belonging to a Maharashtra-based businessman. The incident took place after the businessman’s vehicle was intercepted and stolen by a gang.
According to officials, 11 people are suspected to be involved in the case. Of them, eight have been arrested while three others have reportedly fled the country. The police are continuing their investigation to trace the remaining suspects.
On Tuesday, a joint team of Karwar Police and Vitla Police conducted a search operation at the residence of one of the accused, Mohammad Issam, located in Kallangala near Kepu. Issam is said to be among those who fled abroad.
The police carried out a two-hour search of his house with a warrant and gathered key information. Authorities also questioned the family members to gather further leads on the absconding accused.
