Heavy Storms Cause Widespread Destruction in Lohit District

Itanagar, April 26 — A powerful storm accompanied by intense hail lashed Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district on Saturday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Crops standing in fields were devastated, and several homes and public infrastructure sustained severe damage. Fallen trees blocked major roads, bringing traffic to a standstill in many areas.

In response, the district administration has issued a public alert, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid non-essential travel as relief and rescue operations continue at a war footing.

Essential Services Disrupted, Flood Situation Emerges

According to district officials, heavy damage was reported in Lohit’s headquarters and Tezu sub-division from early morning till noon. The violent storm disrupted essential services such as electricity and water supply, while swelling mountain rivers caused flooding in low-lying areas.

Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain calm and cooperate with ongoing rescue efforts. A senior district officer emphasized that regular updates would be provided, and there is no need for panic as teams work tirelessly to restore normalcy.

Government Pledges Full Support for Affected Families

Dr. Mahesh Chai, MLA of Tezu-Sunpura and Health Minister’s Advisor, visited the affected areas to assess the situation firsthand. He assured residents that the state government would provide every possible support for rehabilitation efforts.

Dr. Chai also highlighted that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other emergency teams are actively engaged in restoring infrastructure and assisting affected communities. He reaffirmed that close monitoring of the situation is underway and that every effort is being made to bring relief to the people of Lohit district.
