Heatwave Alert for Patna and 18 Cities; Northern Bihar Braces for Thunderstorms, Hail Today

Bihar to Witness Dual Weather Conditions on Saturday

Patna, April 27 — Bihar is set to experience contrasting weather patterns today. While Patna and 18 other cities brace for intense heat and heatwave conditions, northern districts of the state are on alert for thunderstorms, rain, and hail, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for parts of North Bihar and the Seemanchal region, warning of potential thunderstorms, heavy winds, hailstorms, and lightning strikes.

Heatwave Conditions in Southern Bihar

A “Hot Day” warning has been issued for Patna and several cities across southern Bihar, with dry and scorching conditions expected throughout Saturday. Cities facing heatwave risks include:

• Chhapra (Saran)

• Buxar

• Ara (Bhojpur)

• Bhabhua

• Sasaram

• Aurangabad

• Gaya

• Nawada

• Jehanabad

• Nalanda

• Jamui

• Banka

On Friday, several districts, including Gaya and Dehri in Rohtas, recorded maximum temperatures around 43.4°C, making them the hottest places in Bihar. Patna and 15 other cities crossed the 40°C mark.

Rain and Storm Alerts in Northern Bihar

Northern Bihar, however, may find relief from the heat as thunderstorms and rain are forecasted for the day. Districts placed under an Orange Alert for thunderstorms, heavy winds (60–70 km/h), and possible hail include:

• West Champaran

• Sitamarhi

• Muzaffarpur

• Madhubani

• Darbhanga

• Supaul

• Madhepura

• Araria

• Saharsa

• Khagaria

• Katihar

• Purnia

• Kishanganj

Residents have been advised to stay indoors during severe weather conditions and to exercise caution against lightning strikes.

Weather Instability to Persist Till April 30

The IMD forecast indicates unstable weather across Bihar from April 26 to April 30. Northern districts can expect intermittent thunderstorms and showers during this period, leading to a decline in temperatures and some relief from the oppressive heat. However, southern parts of Bihar are likely to continue experiencing extreme heat with little to no respite.

Authorities have issued advisories urging people to take safety measures against both heatwave and storm-related risks.
